Selangor fire department on high alert as storms loom ahead of Aidilfitri

SEKINCHAN: The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is ramping up disaster preparedness as Aidilfitri approaches, bracing for potential storms like the one that battered Taman Ria today, damaging at least 30 homes.

SEKINCHAN: The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is ramping up disaster preparedness as Aidilfitri approaches, bracing for potential storms like the one that battered Taman Ria today, damaging at least 30 homes.Selangor JBPM Director, Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail, said storm readiness measures would be a key agenda in a coordination meeting at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre on March 20."Our assets and manpower are fully prepared, but unpredictable weather remains our biggest challenge," he said.

"The upcoming State Disaster Committee Meeting will now also include storm preparations, in addition to its initial focus on extreme heat and fire hazards."He said this after attending the 2025 Zone 7 Sabak Bernam Iftar and Tarawih Prayer Ceremony at the Sekinchan Fire and Rescue Station.Earlier, the Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Dewan Seri Sekinchan was activated to shelter 13 victims from three affected families.



This is the second storm-related disaster in Sekinchan this month, following a similar incident on 6 March in Kampung Parit Empat, which left eight homes destroyed.Selangor JBPM Northern Zone 7 Chief, Samsol Maarif Saibani, said the affected residents comprise six men and seven women.Videos and images capturing the storm in Sekinchan have also gone viral on Facebook.
