See the world-famous Locomotive Sir Nigel Gresley as it passes through Teesside

A world-famous locomotive will be passing through Teesside today (Thursday, March 13), it has been announced. Rail enthusiasts have been told where and when they can spot the 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley as it makes its way through Yorkshire, to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. There will be plenty of chances to spot the train with the locomotive passing through parts of Teesside.

According to the Rail Advent website, the train departs at Crewe and will pass through various locations, including Eaglescliffe , Thornaby , Gypsy Lane and Nunthorpe . The 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley is a famous steam locomotive and member of the LNER A4 Pacific class. It was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley and built in 1937.



The locomotive holds the post-war speed record for steam locomotives on British Railways. The impressive mode of transport is popular with rail enthusiasts and has passed through the area before, including in 2023 when on its way to a steam gala. After departing from Thirsk at 1.

05pm, it is due to pass through Teesside and you'll be able to see it along the route, including at the stations below: It's understood it will stop briefly at Gypsy Lane and Nunthorpe. It will then continue on its journey, arriving at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at 3.56pm.

A lot of the locomotive volunteers are understood to be from the Teesside area. The journey through Teesside comes at an exciting time for the region's rail fans. The 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington railway is being celebrated this year.

As part of the anniversary, a nine-month international festival inspired by 200 years of passenger train travel is heading to the region - and Stockton will be at the centre of the celebrations. The S&DR200 festival will mark the historic first journey on the Stockton and Darlington Railway and will take place from March to November 2025. Residents and visitors will be able to enjoy exciting outdoor arts events, fascinating exhibitions and take part in community projects.
