A man who was banned from The Town Centre in downtown Brandon has been charged with assaulting a security officer, Brandon Police Service said Wednesday in a media release.

BPS officers were waved down on Tuesday at 5:18 p.m. in the 800 block of Rosser Avenue.

A Town Centre security officer told police his phone had been taken by a man who attempted to break it, and then the man grabbed his security jacket. When the suspect was arrested, officers discovered he was breaking a probation order to not be present in The Town Centre. The man was charged and later released with a notice to appear in court June 9.

Brandon police say they caught a 51-year-old man on Tuesday who was wanted for a theft from a downtown business the day before. A theft of about $60 worth of merchandise was reported by a store on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue on Monday. Police say the suspect was identified and picked up Tuesday morning in the 800 block of Rosser Avenue.

He was charged with theft under $5,000 and released with a promise to appear in court June 23. » The Brandon Sun Advertisement.
