Section 2 boys' soccer: Greenville hands Coxsackie-Athens their first loss of the year

GREENVILLE — The Greenville boys' soccer team started hot Thursday against Coxsackie-Athens, winning 2-0 to give the Riverhawks their first loss of the season in a Patroon Conference game.

“Great possession, great communication, great chemistry, everything,” senior midfielder Foster Britton said. “We kept composure, we played some great balls through, we had some great shots on goal, and overall, it was just a mix of everything.” Both goals came in the opening half, with sophomore forward Christopher Hughes finding the net less than 30 seconds into the game on an assist from senior Jude Aloisi.

The Spartans struck again 20 minutes later when Britton scored while assisted by eighth grade forward Beckett Kosich. “You could tell it put them down, and it gave us a lot of momentum,” Britton said. “It gave us a lot of confidence into the next half.



” Greenville possessed the ball effectively after the opening 20 minutes, outshooting Coxsackie-Athens 24-12. Senior Spartans keeper Connor Aloisi had 3 saves, while the Riverhawks’ Jacob Grounds had 9. Greenville improves to 4-0-1 and will host Broadalbin-Perth on Saturday to begin this weekend’s Greenville Tournament.

Coxsackie-Athens falls to 6-1, and it will visit Chatham on Monday. Halftime score: Greenville 2, Coxsackie-Athens 0. Scoring: Hughes 1-0, Britton 1-0, Aloisi 0-1, Kosich 0-1.
