New Delhi: It was a routine Sunday for the Kushwaha family in Delhi. Their youngest daughter, Preeti, was home alone while her parents and siblings were out. Later that evening, Preeti called her mother, saying she had made chapatis and asked her to eat them once she returned.
But what awaited the family was a tragedy- they found Preeti hanging from the fan. The family claims she died by suicide, allegedly over a love affair with a distant cousin, an NDTV report said. What began as a casual meeting gradually turned into a close bond. Over time, the relationship deepened, and the two eventually got married in secret. Reportedly, in the messages, Preeti referred to the man as “husband ji,” and in one dated April 2023, she even mentions his name as “Rinku Ji.” Among the photos shared, one shows the man applying vermilion to Preeti’s forehead-a symbolic gesture of marriage. When she told her family that she wanted to go bald due to "damaged" hair, it led to a heated argument with her sister, Himani. Determined to follow through, Preeti threatened to visit a salon. To avoid public embarrassment, her brother reluctantly agreed and shaved her head at home.
After her death, chats revealed that her alleged lover often praised her looks and once asked, “You’re so beautiful—what if someone else falls for you?” It is believed that Preeti’s drastic decision to go bald was influenced by this very concern.
