While nature can drum up some spectacular views, nothing quite comes close to a waterfall, especially when it’s on your doorstep. Bolton is known for its rolling countryside, yet not so much for the waterfalls nestled in and around the borough. There are a number of stunning secret cascades, all different but equally as enchanting, and worth exploring now that the weather has brightened up a bit.
Keen photographer Pete Kennington captured Bolton's secret natural wonders in a series of glorious pictures, using the torrential rain to catch the waterfalls at their most dramatic. Secret and hidden waterfalls near Bolton you can see this spring Three Nooked Shaw Hidden away in the heart of a pine wood, Three Nooked Shaw is where the water flows from Winter Hill Moor. Situated just off Belmont Road, the area really is a hidden gem of natural beauty.

Tigers Clough Falls Another secret waterfall is Tigers Clough Falls in Rivington, loved by locals, and it’s one that remains pretty much a hidden gem. He said: “The Japanese Garden falls in the Rivington estate is worth a look after heavy rainfall”.
Head on a short walk from the Rivington Reservoir car park and through a wooded ravine to get to this waterfall. With a woodland walk and the sounds of flowing water and the bonus of a pub at the start and end, it is hard to disagree.
