Second man due in court charged in connection with attack on off-duty gardaí in Temple Bar

Garda remains in critical condition in Beaumont Hospital as a result of incident in early hours of last Saturday morning

A second man is due to appear in court on Thursday morning charged in connection with an attack on two off-duty gardaí in Dublin’s Temple Bar last Saturday. One of the gardaí, a man in his 40s, remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital as a result of the incident, and has undergone surgery. The other man has been discharged from hospital, having suffered a concussion and cuts to his face and lip.

The man, in his 30s, was arrested by gardaí investigating the serious assault at the junction of Dame Street and Eustace Street in the early hours of December 14th. He is expected to appear before Dublin District Court. On Tuesday, Johnathan O’Neill (32) with an address at Cromcastle Road, Kilmore, Dublin, was charged with assault causing harm to the two men at Eustace Street, Dublin 2, in the early hours of Saturday.



He is also accused of robbing the more seriously injured man of his phone and wallet containing his cards. Legal aid was granted after he was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear in court again on Friday..
