INDIANAPOLIS — Scattered rain showers have returned to parts of central Indiana as a low pressure system is set up just southwest of the area. Due to the positioning of this system, rain chances will be contained mainly along and southwest of the I-74 corridor throughout the day. The Indy metro is on the northeastern-most extent of the "opportunity" area.
Even in this zone, rain will be more scattered than widespread, so this shouldn't be a "washout" day for anyone. We'll see partly cloudy skies across the northeastern tier of the state with many dry hours. Temperatures will be dependent on where the fronts set up, but most areas see highs in the 50s.
Look for a high in the mid 50s around the Indy metro. Rain exits this evening and overnight and temperatures will be cooler with lows falling back into the mid 30s. Northern counties in central Indiana will see lows near freezing.
Temperatures remain at or near average for Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the low to mid 50s. We'll stay mainly dry Wednesday with only an isolated shower possible. Then on Thursday, showers develop along a warm front that will lift through in the late afternoon/evening.
We see a more significant warming trend Friday into next weekend with temperatures pushing 70°. Along with the warmer air, we'll see a more unsettled setup, bringing rain and storm chances Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday, the day starts with some scattered rain showers ahead of a cold front arriving later in the evening.
This brings another round of storms, some of which could be strong to severe. The threat ends early Monday as much cooler air returns to start next week..
