Sean McDermott Shows Coaching Chops in Early Bills' Success

Buffalo's head coach entered 2024 on the hot seat, but it doesn't look like he will stay there for long.

Entering the 2024 regular season, few coaches had their seats as hot as Sean McDermott for the Buffalo Bills. Two weeks in, though, and that seat has cooled off dramatically. © Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports Buffalo has won their first two games of the new season thanks to a dominant defense and overwhelming offense along the way.

A blowout win over the Miami Dolphins last Thursday will help the odds for McDermott to keep his job as well. There's another reason why Buffalo's long-time head coach has looked strong early in the season, though. The Bills have dealt with a plethora of injuries on both sides of the ball.

Whether it's All-Pro players like Matt Milano and Taron Johnson, or other key starters, Buffalo has struggled to stay healthy in the early stages of the regular season. It just hasn't mattered on game day. A big reason for that is McDermott's defense being consistent and the stable output of young role players simply doing their jobs.

The fact that Buffalo can still produce on the defensive end at a high level is a testament to McDermott's coaching staff.
