The heaviest rain now looks set to stay to our west, affecting parts of Wales and Ireland instead. So if you’re planning to roll your eggs this Easter Sunday, things are looking up – fingers crossed it stays dry! A dry start for most, but rain will push into the West Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Glasgow, and Ayrshire during the afternoon. Some of that rain could be heavy, particularly around Mull, Tiree, Kintyre, and Arran.
Largely dry with a good deal of cloud across the country. There might be the odd patch of light rain in the North Highlands, Hebrides, and Ayrshire, but nothing too disruptive. Again, mainly dry for much of the country, although the far west may see a little rain at times – especially in the Hebrides, West Highlands, Argyll, and parts of Ayrshire.
Temperatures could reach the mid-teens in places like Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Stirlingshire, and Kinross – very pleasant if the sun peeks through the clouds. Things warm up a touch more, with highs of around 17C possible in Angus and Aberdeenshire. Expect a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, mostly affecting the southwest.
All in all, not a bad Easter weekend! No extremes expected – just a typical spring mix of mild weather, cloud, and the odd shower. But in true Scottish fashion, Easter weather has been anything but predictable in the past. Let’s take a quick look back at some of the most memorable Easter weekends.
.. Good Friday 2003 saw a sizzling 25.
3C at Achnagart in the Highlands. More recently, Penicuik in Midlothian enjoyed 24.2C during Easter weekend in 2019.
2013 takes the crown for the chilliest, with Braemar plunging to -12.5C on Easter Sunday and -9C in the Leadhills. Way back in 1951, Edinburgh barely scraped above freezing on Easter Monday! Easter Sunday 2016 brought wild weather, with gusts over 80 mph battering the Fair Isle.
And on Good Friday 1989, Salsburgh in Lanarkshire recorded wind gusts hitting 80 mph. Kinloch Hourn holds the record for the wettest Easter, with over 100mm of rain falling on Good Friday 1967 — nearly three weeks’ worth of rain in just one day!
