A seafront railway will reopen this weekend. The Volk’s Railway on Brighton seafront will welcome passengers back onboard following its winter closure. The first train will leave the aquarium station at 10.
15am on Saturday (April 5). The railway had been closed over the winter months while vital maintenance work was completed. Broadcaster Nicholas Owen will launch the Volk’s 2025 operating season before driving the first train of the day.
Passengers will be able to enjoy some new sights during their trip, with the train passing beneath the newly built deck of the Jungle Rumble café and the Black Rock station opposite the newly converted Reading Rooms. A new gangway has been installed allowing passengers to access the platform via a temporary ticket office and queuing area.
These arrangements will be in place until Southern Water completes its works on the building's main structure. This has been implemented by both the Volk’s Railway Association, alongside Brighton and Hove council’s management team. The Volk’s Railway is the oldest operating railway and has been a staple part of the Brighton seafront since its opening in 1893 by Magnus Volk.
The train runs a daily service throughout the summer months, weather permitting, and will finish on September 30. Passengers can board the train at the aquarium station, halfway station, and Black Rock station. Tickets prices begin at £2.
