A trio of exciting home track gallopers can take centre stage at a celebratory meeting at Scone on Tuesday. And heading that group is lightly raced and exciting four-year-old mare In Summer who is primed to go one better second-up in a Benchmark 58 Hcp over 1300m for the Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich stable. Along with fellow trainer Leah Gavranich, Paul Messara will chase success at Scone.
Credit: Vince Caligiuri The daughter of powerhouse sire The Autumn Sun re-loads 16 days after flashing home from the back to miss narrowly in a Class 1 at Muswellbrook over 1000m. Happy with that fresh run, connections have brought her back home over a 300m longer journey, and also where she recorded a dominant win on debut as a three-year-old in April. Drawn to get a good run well off speed with plenty of cover, In Summer is likely to start as favourite.
Another emerging local eyeing bigger targets towards the end of the year is promising filly Quick Sharp from the Rodney Northam yard. A daughter of Bull Point, Quick Sharp put paid to a handy maiden field here on debut 25 days ago and has continued to work well on the track ahead of tackling a Class 1 Hcp over 900m. The third of that stand-out trio is debutant three-year-old Triti, also from the Messara-Gavranich camp, who is set to open his career in a Maiden Plate over 1400m to close the meeting.
A son of high-class Castelvecchio, who ran second to the great Japanese mare Lys Graceiux in the 2019 Cox Plate, Triti has been in work for some time, and fitted with three easy trials on soft ground. The day also celebrates the 30th birthday of the current Scone track since taking over from the original White Park course that had served the club for 50 years since World War II. Special functions, including welcoming back some of the original founding members, will bring a proud atmosphere to the meeting.
And punters and racegoers can expect steady improvement in the surface rating, with days of rain finally giving way to clearer weather. Rated a Heavy 8 through Monday, the likelihood is the meeting will start on a Soft 7. Supplied by Racing NSW Full form and race replays available at racingnsw.
