Oxford Spires Academy pupils learned about animal welfare, decorated bins, and supported the elderly on their final day of term before the Easter holidays.

The community action day at Oxford Spires Academy saw pupils step away from their usual lessons to take part in various societies. The activities on Friday, April 4, ranged from animal charity campaigns, which saw pupils learn about domestic animal welfare and create campaign posters, to decorating biscuits for hardworking staff and a local homeless charity. Other activities included transforming rubbish bins into vibrant works of art to encourage recycling and school pride, and faith-based activities promoting kindness and service around Oxford.

Some pupils were also taught basic CPR and first aid, and took part in gardening activities to spread greenery around classrooms and offices. A session on LGBT+ awareness educated pupils on the history of identity labels and why some are now considered offensive, and the importance of allyship. Sandwich packs were prepared for staff as a token of appreciation and cards were made for elderly individuals who may spend a lot of time alone.

The school said: "Community action day is all about discovering teamwork, charity, and giving back to our community. "A day of fun, exploration, and making the most of their passions, students were ready to shape their own learning adventure.".
