A high school has launched an appeal to replace its unusable Astro turf pitch due to lack of funds. Turton High School , in Bromley Cross, contacted parents of pupils earlier this month and outlined that ‘students are now facing restrictions on their PE lessons’ because of the ‘unusable’ pitch. The Astro turf pitch is used by pupils at Turton High School.
(Image: Turton High School) The letter added: “Due to the financial climate and the ongoing challenges in school funding, we do not have the necessary funds to readily replace the Astro turf. Parents and guardians received the letter from Turton earlier this month (Image: Contributor) “While we are exploring all possible funding avenues, including grants and sponsorships, we are reaching out to our school community to ask for support. “With the collective support of our school community, we can ensure that our students continue to have access to a safe and high-quality sports facility that allows them to fully engage in PE lessons, extracurricular activities and competitive sports.

The fundraiser hopes to raise money to repair the pitch. (Image: Turton High School) Headteacher Samantha Gorse said: “The Astro turf was used by the PE classes at Turton as well as the wider community, we had the pitch for 12 years.
“Unfortunately, it’s now at the stage where it is deemed unsafe for wet weather. The cost for replacement is huge and we are unable to replace it due to financial restraints even though it is a key priority. “We have a successful PE department at Turton, our GCSE results for PE are always brilliant, so it’s something that we want to keep going.
