Surat: A schoolboy was hit by a dumper truck in the posh Pal area of Surat, which left the boy with multiple injuries and fractures. The incident took place at Apex Crossroads on Saturday afternoon. Pal police booked the accused and started an investigation.
According to details, Vedant Matholiya , was going to Prince Academy for tuition classes. He stopped at a traffic signal near Apex Hospital around 3pm. After green signal, he started riding his cycle.
Others also started moving. However, suddenly a dumper rushed from his right side, breaking the signal and dragging him for a few metres. Vedant was injured seriously.
He was rushed to BAPS Hospital in Adajan. He was being treated for fractures and other serious injuries. His father, Jignesh Matholiya, filed a complaint against the dumper driver at Pal police station.
Inspector K L Gaadhe said, "We have asked for CCTV footage of the signal. The driver claimed that his side was open, we will check who was at fault. We have detained the driver and booked him for rash driving and endangering human lives.
" After the incident, local residents in Pal protested and stopped at least 10 dumpers. They demanded that the police stop the builders and contractors from running these dumpers during daytime. Residents allege that the traffic police and RTO turn a blind eye to these vehicles.
