The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks public comment on the action to amend the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program to include the federal 2024 Highway Safety Improvement Program for 32 intersection improvements in 18 counties. SCDOT will receive public comment for 21 days, from Sept. 19 through Oct.

10. The federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) has selected 32 intersections for improvement. This program uses a data-driven strategic approach to identify locations with high crash rates or patterns throughout the state and implements safety enhancements through infrastructure-related improvements.

The HSIP intersection improvement process includes an engineering study that will be performed at each location. The study will analyze the crash data, assess field conditions, and evaluate the effectiveness of all potential countermeasures to ensure maximum safety benefits for the funds invested.
