You don’t need to run to a diagnostic centre to get a basic health profile. Just scan your face on an app, ‘ciana health’, and you will get 25 parameters (vitals, metabolic, blood, and physiological) in a few seconds. Launched by aciana, a Hyderabad-based startup, on Thursday, the app works with Genewa face scan that takes an image of the face in 30 seconds and churns out a report in a few seconds, giving the basic health profile, which includes body mass index, cardiovascular disease risk, cardiac workload, Type 2 diabetes risk and hypertension risk.

“We have licensed this product from a Canadian company and several healthcare institutes are using this product in the institute. The results are indicative and can’t be used for prescriptive uses,” Geethika Sai Nutakki, an MD in general medicine and Vice-President (Business Development and Health Tech) at aciana told businessline . The face scan would categorise the risk profile in dark green, light green, yellow, and red zones.

Opinion, however, is divided on the efficacy of facial scans. Some argue that the accuracy of these systems can vary depending on factors like lighting, camera quality, and individual characteristics. They also felt that much research was needed to validate the accuracy and reliability of these systems.

The face scan feature is part of the app, connecting patients with doctors and diagnostic laboratories. “The ciana healthcare ecosystem is an integrated healthcare platform backed by advanced genetic insights and AI-driven analytics. Designed to bridge the critical gaps in healthcare delivery, ciana Healthcare brings personalised and predictive healthcare,” Kishore Karumanchi, CEO of aciana, has said.

The three-year-old startup has not raised any funds so far. Besides the regular services like booking appointments, lab services, tracking results and receiving updates, and carrying out health reports, the startup comes out with a genetic test that helps identify predisposition for several diseases. “The AI-based analytics offer prescription management, optimise medications and order refills, if need be.

It will also check if there are any duplication of drugs and possibility of drug-to-drug and drug-to-gene reaction and alert the doctors and patients accordingly,” Geetika said. For doctors, the app provides seamless practice management, including scheduling of appointments, billing, payments and insurance packages. It announced a genetics-based wellness programme.

Priced at around ₹22,000-30,000, the scheme offers preventive care. Comments.
