The Supreme Court on Friday criticized a Karnataka High Court judge for referring to a Muslim-majority neighborhood in Bengaluru as "Pakistan." The contentious remark was made by Justice Vedavyasachar Srishananda earlier this week during a landlord-tenant dispute hearing in Gori Palya, a western part of the city. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, leading a five-judge bench, expressed concern over the "gratuitous remark" made by Justice Srishananda.
Supreme Court seeks report on controversial remarks "We have asked the AG and SG to assist us. We ask the registrar general of the High Court to submit a report to this court after seeking administrative directions from the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court," stated the top court. The report is expected within two weeks, with a hearing scheduled for next Wednesday.
