SC craft beer maker invests $22 million to expand on Johns Island

Low Tide Brewing is investing millions to build a permanent location on Johns Island with a new site that will include four bars and event space.

JOHNS ISLAND — A popular craft beer manufacturer is making a big investment to stay local. Low Tide Brewing is investing $22.2 million to expand operations in Charleston County and create 33 jobs.

Mike Fielding founded the business on rented land on Johns Island in 2016. This past year, he purchased property down the road from his current operations at 2863 Maybank Highway to build a permanent brewery. A flight at Low Tide Brewing is served on handcrafted boards by Robby Routhier, a miller and owner of Blackwater Acres farm.



“I want the longevity and certainty to do what we want to do and really invest in the space,” Fielding previously said . “We’re fortunate enough that we found the property and are able to really make a place our own.” The site at 0 Beer Garden Way encompasses 26,800 square feet and will feature four bars , a new brewing system and event space.

The expansion will allow Low Tide to ramp up production and meet a higher demand for wholesale product as well as increased visitors, Fielding noted. "Demand for our products has grown steadily as we continue to strengthen our reputation in the community," he said. "We are excited to expand our capabilities so we can support our community even more while producing plenty of tasty brews.
