The Supreme Court chamber judge today directed Chattogram's most wanted criminal Sazzad Hossain alias Choto Sazzad's wife Sharmin Akhter Tamanna to surrender before the lower court concerned in seven days in a double murder case. Sharmin came to light after her statement about her husband's arrest went viral on social medial last month. Justice Md Rezaul Haque, chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC, passed the order after modifying an order of High Court following a petition filed by the state.
Earlier on April 9, the HC directed Sharmin to surrender before the lower court in four weeks in connection with the case filed in connection with the murders of Rifat and Bakhtiar. The case was filed by Firoja Begum, mother of the victims, with Bakulia Police Station in Chattogram on April 1 this year, Additional Attorney General Aneek R Haque told The Daily Star. He also said police can arrest Sharmin if she does not surrender in seven days in connection with the murder case.
Police arrested Sazzad Hossain at night on March 15 from Bashundhara Shopping Mall in Dhaka, where he was roaming with his wife Sharmin. He was later transferred to Chattogram and produced before a court on March 16. The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakkar Siddique granted a seven-day remand for Sazzad in a murder case filed with Chandgaon Police Station.
After the arrest of Sazzad, his wife Sharmin posted a video on Facebook on Mach 16, threatening those involved in his capture. "We will spend bundles of money to bring him back. Be prepared—those responsible for his arrest won't be spared," she reportedly said in the video, which quickly went viral, sparking public outrage and calls for her arrest.
