Article content Police in North Vancouver are still on the lookout for a suspect who brie-fly nabbed thousands of dollars worth of cheese but failed to make gouda on his grate escape when he was chased off by officers on early morning patrol. At about 4 a.m.
on Sept. 29, North Van Mounties spotted a cartful of high-end cheese in a laneway near East 13th Street and Lonsdale Avenue. As they went on foot to investigate, a man came out of a stairwell connected to a Whole Foods store.
Suspecting he was connected to the pile of pilfered provolone, the officers gave chase but he managed to flee — leaving behind the funky fortune. North Van RCMP Const. Mansoor Sahak said staff at Whole Foods assessed the stolen cheese at about $12,800, all of which couldn’t be sold because it was no longer refrigerated.
Sahak said people often ask what officers do when not on active calls and this was a good example of a proactive patrol in a high-crime area that thwarted an alleged thief in action. “While this was great work by our officers, the investigation is not complete,” said Sahak in a news release on Thursday. “We are releasing CCTV video .
.. in hopes that someone may recognize the suspect and call police.
” Anyone with information is asked to call the North Van RCMP at 604-985-1311 or make an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477..
