Pune: Housing minister Atul Save has said state’s new housing policy would be announced soon and he would send a proposal for reduction in the stamp duty and registration charges on affordable housing to the revenue minister shortly. Save told TOI that the new housing policy had already been sent to state govt, which was likely to announce it soon. On developers’ demand on reducing stamp duty on affordable housing segment, Save said, “The proposal on this will be put up before the revenue minister this week.

” The minister said the policy would push for affordable housing in the state. “The new policy is expected to encourage affordable housing projects across different income segments to incentivise projects for economically-weaker sections, as well as lower- and middle-income groups,” a senior housing department official said, adding that the policy was also likely to simplify approvals and clearances required for housing projects. On the Centre’s push for affordable housing and ‘Housing for All’ initiative, Save said, “State govt had already given 1% reduction on property registration charges for women.

We will also think of what other concessions in registration could be extended to the people,” he said, adding that suggestions from the real estate forum would be considered in the new housing policy. The new housing policy will include measures to boost the affordable housing segments, as well as help push for stalled SRA projects, besides timely completion of all redevelopment projects. With key cities like Pune and Mumbai accounting for most of the new launches, the push for affordable housing would help address the lack of housing in key city areas, considering that the state’s urban housing is 30% short of target, as per the latest state economic survey.

A Credai member said if developers were provided incentives, the constructions in the affordable segment would pick up pace. Consumer forums have claimed that the new policy had provisions for safeguarding the interest of homebuyers and fast-tracking the long-delayed process of securing conveyance of properties.
