A group of volunteers from Savannah River Mission Completion worked together to support the United Way of the CSRA’s Project Serve “Day of Caring.” The Project Serve Day of Caring took place on Aug. 23, to kick off the 2024 United Way Campaign.
Fifteen volunteers from SRMC volunteered at the Salvation Army Center of Hope in Augusta, Georgia. The Center of Hope feeds the hungry, shelters the homeless, and brings hope to the dispirited by providing emergency overnight shelter for homeless men, women, and families, as well as providing job skills training and social services. The volunteers assisted with sorting and reorganizing the clothing and donation room, stocking the food and beverage pantry, and assembling snack bags for center residents.
The Project Serve coordinator for SRMC, Keisha Martin, said she always loves to hear those involved express appreciation for the help provided by the volunteers. “It brings me great joy to lead and work alongside my coworkers at SRMC who volunteered to spend a day outside of work on their own time helping to uplift and strengthen our community,” said Martin, SRMC Tank Farm Facility Engineering. “We are truly making a difference when we volunteer for projects like this.
” SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson said he enjoys seeing employees support community causes like Project Serve. “At SRMC, we are committed to supporting the programs that support our community in many ways,” Olson said. “Our employees continue to express that commitment through their volunteer work.
