Pune: Kothrud police on Monday registered a case against a 24-year-old man from Satara district on charges of creating fake profiles of his friend on social media platforms and posting obscene material and her morphed photographs after she stopped talking to him. The man was booked under sections 78 (stalking), 79 (intent to insult the modesty of a woman), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of Information and Technology Act. Inspector Vikramsinh Kadam of the Kothrud police told TOI that the woman and the suspect were from Satara district.

They were working in a company in Satara. He said, "Last month, the woman shifted to Pune and stopped talking to the man, following which he started harassing her." Kadam said the man created the woman's fake profile and posted vulgar comments about her.

When she confronted him over this, the man abused and threatened to kill her if she approached police. "The man later opened her fake profiles on different social media pages and posted lewd comments about her," Kadam said. The officer said the woman had lodged a complaint against the man on Monday.

"Our investigations are ongoing," Kadam said..
