Surat: The Sarthana Nature Park authorities are upgrading their aviary to improve the birds' safety and protection. The metal grilles of the current cages suffer continuous damage due to corrosion. Despite regular maintenance through painting, the deterioration persists.
"Despite regular painting, the grilles are getting damaged. Thus, refurbishment of the cages with better material is being done," a zoo official said. The Rs 2 crore aviary renovation project includes expanding certain cages to provide additional protection during the rainy season.
"The cages will be dismantled and new structures will be developed with new grilles. The majority of the old cement concrete structure will be retained," the official said. The zoo currently houses 200 bird species and anticipates receiving more through exchange programmes.
An initial proposal for a walk-through aviary was considered but was abandoned. The snake park construction continues to progress. The zoo currently has no snakes but receives offers to exchange them for other animals.
These remain pending until the snake park is completed, which is expected to happen in the coming weeks. Stay updated with the latest city news , Air Quality Index (AQI), and weather updates for major cities like Delhi , Mumbai , Noida , and Bangalore on Times of India ..
