Sarikei sports facilities get boost with new covered basketball court under RTP

Huang (left) during his site visit to inspect the construction of the covered basketball court for the Repok Basketball Club.SARIKEI (April 4): The development of sports facilities here is progressing steadily through the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) programme.On this, an allocation of RM100,000 has been channelled for the construction of a covered basketball court for the Repok Basketball Club this year.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability and Sarikei MP Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, who recently visited the project site, emphasised that sports development is a key focus in empowering the local community.“With improved facilities, I am confident that more young people will actively participate in sports, thereby fostering healthy lifestyles and boosting their competitiveness,” he said, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.In 2024, RM500,000 has been allocated under the RTP to upgrade the existing facilities, including the construction of spectator stand, toilets, store rooms, resurfacing of concrete floors, and various other improvements.
