Network infrastructure company SAR Televenture Limited has acquired a majority stake in internet service provider , Tikona Infinet Limited in a share swap deal for Rs 578 crore. The acquisition comes amidst the struggles of local ISPs in competing with large telecom operators, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel which have been getting aggressive in the home broadband space. With the acquisition, SAR Televenture said it will gain a foothold in the enterprise broadband segment, becoming the third largest in this segment.

The company will also acquire Tikona's all India Unified License (ISP, Category-A), and National Long Distance (NLD) license through which Tikona offered a wide range of telecom services , including broadband, lease line, virtual private networks, and other value added services. Advt “This acquisition allows us to expand our service portfolio and provide customers with a wider range of services, including high-speed broadband, fibre-optic connectivity, and advanced 4G and 5G network solutions . By leveraging our combined expertise, we aim to redefine connectivity standards and deliver innovative services to businesses and individuals across India," said Rahul Sahdev, managing director, SAR Televenture.

Following the acquisition, SAR Televenture offerings will include commissioning 4G/5G towers, fiber-to-the-home services, optical fiber cable, enterprise network solutions, and retail broadband services. The home broadband space has been seeing a disruption following the rollout of fixed wireless access (FWA), which are cheaper to deploy than optic fiber, pushing smaller ISPs to the wall as they face erosion of revenue and margins in their fight to keep their ground. Industry experts said ISPs are facing challenges on capex limitations, high subscriber churn, and difficulty in achieving economies of scale.

The top ISPs in India include Reliance-backed Hathway , ACT Fibernet, Excitel, and Tikona, all fighting with telcos for a share of some 300 million addressable homes for home broadband services. Advt India currently has some 46 million home broadband subscribers, with Jio (17 million), Airtel (9.2 million), and state-run BSNL (4.

24 million) being the top players. ET Bureau Published On Apr 3, 2025 at 07:43 AM IST Telegram Facebook Copy Link Be the first one to comment.
