San Diego CVS pharmacy workers approved a new contract Friday night that included raises and other benefits. There are roughly 900 CVS workers in San Diego County across 56 stores that will be affected by the new contract. They are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union and the new three-year contract covers all 7,000 workers across Southern California.
Pharmacy workers will get raises for each year of the contract, retroactive to early July, as well as bigger raises for workers who have been there 10 years or more and increased health care bonuses. “Today, by ratifying this contract,” the union said Friday in a statement, “CVS workers have secured significant wage increases for all workers, more secure staffing levels, and a more affordable healthcare plan for members who were struggling with the high cost of the company’s health plan.” CVS said in a statement that it was pleased to reach an agreement with eight UFCW locals across the state.
“After months of good faith negotiations,” it said, “we’ve aligned on a comprehensive benefit proposal that supports our colleagues’ physical, financial and professional health.” There was a three-day strike in mid-October as the union fought for a better contract, although it only involved a handful of stores in Los Angeles and Orange counties..
