The weather this weekend in San Diego and the surrounding areas is sticking to a cooler-than-average trend, but a slight uptick in temperatures is making today a bit more bearable compared to yesterday. According to a report by the National Weather Service's San Diego office, folks can expect that "high temperatures will be slightly warmer today compared to yesterday."However, if you're planning on frolicking in the mountains or braving the desert this weekend, be prepared for a blustery time.

The same NWS report details stronger onshore flows kicking up gusty west winds, particularly along and below the east slopes of mountains. Howlers reach 30 to 50 mph, and isolated gusts might pack even more of a punch.Looking beyond the weekend, there's a chance for light, "not impressive overall" precipitation across the coast and valleys come Monday, according to an Area Forecast Discussion from the same source.

However, the mountains may get just a bit more moisture, so if you're dying for a sprinkle, that's where you'll want to be. Predictions indicate that some coastal mountain slopes could have a 20-40% shot at around 0.20" of rain.

And while the immediate horizon looks to maintain a cool, cloudy demeanor, things could get wetter later in the week. "A deeper, stronger trough could potentially bring more precipitation late in the week," the National Weather Service notes. But, for now, timing and magnitude remain in the realm of uncertainty.

Meanwhile, marine conditions are making things choppy for boaters, with a Small Craft Advisory in effect until 11 AM today and strong northwest winds stirring steep waves through the morning. The surf's been up for beachgoers, but maybe a little too much for casual swimming. With reports of waves ranging from 4-8 feet and sets possibly reaching 10 feet, the NWS has issued a High Surf Advisory and a Beach Hazards Statement this afternoon, warning of strong rip currents and potential coastal erosion.
