(Image provided by Samsung Electronics) SEOUL, April 9 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics announced a major update to its SmartThings smart home platform on Tuesday, introducing a suite of AI-powered features aimed at delivering a more personalized and intuitive home experience. Among the most notable additions is an integration with Samsung Health that uses sleep data collected from Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Ring devices to automate home environments in sync with users’ sleep patterns.
For instance, when a user goes to bed, SmartThings can automatically dim the lights, power down the TV, and when they wake, raise the curtains and play music of their choice—all without manual input. The update also expands the platform’s automated routines, allowing users to set actions based on weekly, monthly, or seasonal schedules. This enables new use cases like a “vacation mode” that adjusts wake-up times and lighting during school breaks, or “seasonal mode” for adapting home conditions to changes in weather and daylight.
Samsung has introduced a new “Broadcast” feature, allowing family members to send voice messages through connected speakers and soundbars—a modern take on household intercoms. Other enhancements include: Expanded support for Calm Onboarding, which automatically syncs product settings upon device installation. Integration with the latest Matter 1.
