Samsung’s move into augmented reality (AR) has been generating a lot of buzz for some time now. While the company first teased an “XR Experience” device during the launch of the Galaxy S23 in 2023, the specifics have remained unclear. These glasses are expected to compete with Apple’s Vision Pro, though they’ll initially be available in select markets.
Samsung’s entry into this space is being developed in partnership with Qualcomm and Google—two giants in the tech world. Qualcomm will provide the AR1 chipset, the device’s main processing unit, while Google will supply its AI-powered large language models (LLMs), which will enable key features like gesture recognition and even payment functionality. Design and Key Features The smart glasses are rumored to weigh around 50 grams, similar to a typical pair of sunglasses, making them light enough for all-day wear.
Despite their lightweight design, the glasses are expected to be packed with powerful features. They’re likely to feature a 155mAh battery, offering decent battery life to power the AR experience without needing constant recharging. The glasses will also sport a 12-megapixel camera, equipped with a Sony IMX681 CMOS sensor, ensuring users can capture high-quality images and videos.
An NXP semiconductor will serve as an auxiliary processing unit, supporting the device’s performance. On the software side, the glasses are expected to come with AI-powered tools, thanks to Google’s contribution.
