Samsung unveiled its flagship smartphones of 2025, the Galaxy S25 series, at the Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday. While leaks of marketing material before the release suggested that we could see four instead of the regular three this time, it looks like we were tricked — at least, partially. The rumoured Galaxy S25 “Slim” or, as it is now officially called the Galaxy S25 Edge (hello nostalgia!), was indeed teased at the event — both on stage and at the experience zone at the SAP Center in San Jose, according to several media outlets.
Reports state that the device is still in development and will be released in a phased manner. A report from PhoneArena said that Samsung could release the device in 39 countries — excluding the US and Korea. However, a company representative told Android Authority that the phone would be launching in these markets.
“What will be announced has not finally been decided yet. But certainly US, Korea will be announced (sic). And then that model might be available as a second (wave) launch,” they were quoted as saying.
Samsung Southwest Asia CEO JB Park hinted at a possible India launch during a pre-event media roundtable , saying, "In addition to AI, Indian consumers also prioritise features like a lighter or thinner design when choosing a phone." Does it mean anything? We really can't say at the moment. As far as the timeline of the launch is concerned, it is fair to say that the Galaxy S25 Edge will most likely be released in the second half of 2025.
Much like how the Galaxy Ring, which was teased with the Galaxy S24 series but launched later in July. A sneak peek may also be on the cards at the Mobile World Congress in March. Rumours suggest the Galaxy S25 Edge will feature an ultra-thin 6.
5mm profile. Despite its sleek design, the device is expected to feature a battery capacity between 3,000mAh and 4,000mAh, alongside a powerful 200MP main camera and a refined, slimmer periscope camera module. Under the hood, the Galaxy S25 Edge is likely to sport a 6.
66-inch display—matching the Galaxy S25+ in size—and run on Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The return of 'Edge' Another interesting aspect is the use of the term "Edge" in its nomenclature. Longtime Samsung fans will recall that "Edge" was initially used to distinguish flat-screen smartphones from their curved-display counterparts, starting with the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge in 2014 , followed by the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015.
After retiring the 'Edge' branding with the launch of the Galaxy S8 series in 2017 and making curved-display flagship devices mainstream, Samsung has brought the name back for the first time with the Galaxy S25 series. The irony? This time, the Edge is flat..
