play video Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a warning to Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to be cautious of online scammers impersonating politicians and public officials in fake recruitment and assistance schemes. He urged citizens not to fall for unsolicited messages claiming to be from MPs, Ministers of State, or CEOs of State-Owned Enterprises. According to him, it is highly unlikely for any such official to personally reach out via social media platforms like Facebook or TikTok, offering assistance or recruitment opportunities.

“Let me use this opportunity to plead with my countrymen and women, especially the young people of our country. I know that we are all looking for opportunities. But no Minister of State, no Member of Parliament, will come on Facebook or TikTok, leave everything they have to do, and come into your inbox to greet you, ask how you are doing, and offer help if they have not finished solving the problems in our constituencies,” he stated during a press conference on April 9, 2025.

He further warned that any approach of this nature is not legitimate and is likely a scam because no minister, MP, or CEO will demand money in exchange for protocol assistance. “So, when anybody makes such an approach, bear in mind that it is not legitimate. No minister, no MP, or CEO of a State-Owned Enterprise would approach you and ask you to pay a thousand Ghana cedis for protocol.

It is a scam,” he said. In response to these scamming activities, the Minister disclosed that all state appointees have been asked to submit their official social media handles for verification. “We have asked all appointees of the state to submit their official handles so that we can get them properly verified.

But that in itself is not a panacea,” he noted. He also acknowledged that even verified accounts are no guarantee against fraud, stating, “I, for one, have all my accounts verified, but still, people are falling prey.” Sam George revealed how one individual was defrauded of GH¢64,000, believing that he was facilitating a recruitment opportunity for him.

According to him, the victim failed to notice the glaring errors, including the scam account referring to “MP for Ningo Prampram” as “MP for Bingo Prampram.” “In fact, one of the accounts that defrauded someone asked the person, ‘Did you just take your time?’ Because instead of MP for Ningo Prampram, they wrote MP for Bingo Prampram. But the person was so excited that Sam George had sent him a message asking him what to do.

Unfortunately, he got defrauded to the tune of GH¢64,000, having taken a loan, claiming that I was doing recruitment,” he said. RAD/MA Meanwhile, watch as Virginia Palmer commends Ghana’s contributions to global security below:.
