Times have been pretty good for Sam Altman since the massive coup at OpenAI last November. After leading one of the biggest AI companies on the planet, Mr. Altman has secured a role in San Francisco’s government.

According to a new report, Sam Altman was appointed to San Francisco’s mayor-elect’s transition team . Now that AI technology has reached such a powerful state, it’s important that the government gets involved to mitigate any potential risks associated. In the wrong hands, AI technology could cause some serious harm.

The companies developing AI technology need proper regulations, as it only takes one AI tool to cause widespread damage. Sam Altman is part of the San Francisco Transition Team Right now, details on this role are pretty scarce. San Francisco’s mayor-elect Daniel Lurie appointed Altman to the position .

On Monday, he delivered a statement on the matter. He said that Altman will deliver “on his promise to build a world-class team that shares his commitment to an administration rooted in accountability, service, and change.” The statement didn’t specifically mention AI, so the jury’s out on whether this appointment has anything to do with the technology.

Lurie appointed Altman to help with the public safety crisis going on in San Francisco. The state of public safety is deplorable in the city, and this is scaring many young entrepreneurs away from the city. They’re settling in other business hot-spots like Miami, Florida and Austin, Texas.

As such, the mayor-to-be has been tasked with the job of cleaning up the streets. Before officially taking on the Mayoral mantle on January 8th, he’s assembled a team of bright minds. According to Lurie himself, Altman’s mind is the brightest in the sky, as he referred to Altman as “one of the most important figures on the planet.

” Flattering, yes, but Altman has proven to be a rather influential figure in the AI industry. Along with Sam Altman , the team also includes former Stockton Mayer Michael Tubbs and San Francisco fire chief Joanne Hayes-White. Hopefully, this team can bring some real change for San Francisco business owners.
