Williamsport, Pa. — The Salvation Army Williamsport Corps are pleased to present the 22nd annual Festival of Trees in downtown Williamsport. Held from Nov.
24 to Dec. 13 at 33 W. Third St.
, the event will display, then auction off beautiful artificial trees and prizes sponsored by local businesses and organizations. Over the last 21 years, the Festival of Trees has raised approximately $370,000 for the Salvation Army's local food pantry, gym, youth and senior program, emergency disaster services, community garden and urban farm, and other initiatives. This year's trees will be on display across the lobby from Julie's Café in the large windows starting on Nov.
24, and will remain fully-lit so that they can be viewed at any time. Visitors can stroll around the display and vote for their favorites with a $1 donation for every vote. Votes may also be cast at tree sponsor locations.
In addition to being displayed in the windows facing Third and Court streets, the trees will serve as a backdrop for photos with Santa. On Dec. 13 beginning at 7 p.
m., Mike Roan will auction off the trees and incentive packages to the public. Each tree has a connected prize package with a value of at least $200.
The tree that earns the most $1 votes will win the "People's Choice" title, and the tree that raises the most funds with votes and auction proceeds combined will win the "Best of the Festival." Winning organizations will be announced by the Salvation Army a few days prior to Christmas, and they will be invited to and recognized at Salvation Army's annual spring luncheon. All tree sponsors' names, regardless of funds raised, will be featured in the Sun-Gazette and Webb Weekly.
This event is made possible with the support of the Lycoming County Commissioners, Roan Real Estate, Backyard Broadcasting, Big Lots of Muncy, Webb Weekly, and the Williamsport Business Association. The Festival of Trees isn't the only tree-themed activity that the Salvation Army is participating in this holiday season! Walmart and Sam's Club stores have partnered with the Salvation Army to host Angel Trees, which are adorned with tags containing a child's wish list. Each tag on the tree includes the address where gifts should be dropped off and a deadline for gift donations.
