Salmon is a healthy yet delicious option for lunch or dinner and can be easily elevated with the correct preparation. Joanne, co-founder of Inspired Taste and seasoned cook , recommends her recipe of coating salmon with brown sugar to boost both texture and taste significantly. She explained: “This brown sugar-baked salmon is such a delicious and easy dinner.

Our easy brown sugar rub is perfect for salmon fillets. It caramelises and turns into a sweet and smoky glaze in the oven.” Brown sugar seals in moisture, ensuring the salmon remains succulent and tender throughout cooking and prevents it from becoming overly dry.

What’s more, the molasses in brown sugar will form a gorgeously caramelised crust as the salmon bakes, enhancing its depth and a subtle sweetness that perfectly accents the savoury notes of the fish. Four salmon fillets One tablespoon of brown sugar One teaspoon of olive oil One teaspoon of lemon zest Half a teaspoon of smoked paprika Half a lemon (quartered) Pinch of salt Olive oil Start by preheating your oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas Mark 6 and prepare a large baking tray with parchment paper. Thoroughly pat down the salmon fillets with kitchen roll before massaging them with olive oil.

Combine brown sugar, lemon zest, paprika, and a hint of salt in a small mixing bowl. Generously spread the brown sugar mixture over the salmon, working it thoroughly into the fish. If you have time, let the salmon marinate briefly for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the flavours to infuse.

After putting the salmon on the baking tray, skin-side down, place it in the oven to cook. Let the salmon bake for approximately 12 to 15 minutes, or until it is cooked through completely. Remove the salmon from the oven, and it is ready to be enjoyed.

If desired, serve with lemon wedges for a zesty squeeze over the salmon..
