Salmon is a healthy yet delicious meal that can be made on a weekday, but properly cooked salmon can elevate this dish to the next level. Joanne, a cook and co-founder of Inspired Taste , has shared that baking salmon in brown sugar will enhance both the flavour and the texture. She said: “This brown sugar-baked salmon is such a delicious and easy dinner.
“Our easy brown sugar rub is perfect for salmon fillets. It caramelises and turns into a sweet and smoky glaze in the oven.” Brown sugar locks in moisture to keep the salmon tender and juicy as it cooks, stopping it from drying out while cooking.
The molasses in brown sugar will add a beautifully caramelised crust to the salmon as it cooks, enhancing its deeper and slightly sweet flavour, which will complement the fish's savoury taste. You will need: Four salmon fillets One tablespoon of brown sugar One teaspoon of olive oil One teaspoon of lemon zest Half a teaspoon of smoked paprika Half a lemon (quartered) Pinch of salt Olive oil Recipe : To begin, preheat the oven to 200C and line a large-rimmed baking sheet with baking paper. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and then rub them with olive oil.
Mix the brown sugar, lemon zest, paprika, and pinch of salt in a small bowl. Drizzle the brown sugar glaze all over the fish and use your hands to massage it into the salmon. If you have time, let the salmon marinate for 10 to 15 minutes.
Once you are ready to cook, place the salmon fillets skin side down on the baking sheet. Bake the salmon for 12 to 15 minutes or until it is fully cooked through. Take out the oven and your mouthwatering salmon is ready to eat.
Serve with lemon wedges to squeeze over the salmon if you wish..
