Former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay has had a successful career on our TV screens and has even been awarded a Bafta for her comedy talents but it wasn't always an easy ride

Sally Lindsay has been a familiar face on television for many years. The actress is best known for her roles in popular programmes such as ITV's Coronation Street, Loose Women, and Still Open All Hours. Interestingly, it was Sally's comedic prowess that catapulted her to fame.

After honing her skills as a stand-up comedian post-theatre school, her northern wit and charisma caught the eye of Peter Kay, who subsequently cast her in Phoenix Nights. Her success in the comedy series paved the way for her role as Michelle, Twiggy's girlfriend in the acclaimed programme The Royal Family in 2000. However, her major breakthrough came in 2001 when she joined the cast of Coronation Street as Shelley Unwin.

During her tenure on the show, she appeared in an impressive 750 episodes and even bagged the Best Actress award at the Inside Soap Awards in 2005 for her performance. Since leaving Corrie, Sally's career has taken a different turn as she now leads the popular Channel 5 detective series The Madame Blanc Mysteries. In addition to acting, Sally has also hosted her own show Posh Weekends, where she stays at some of the UK's most opulent homes.

This weekend, viewers can catch Sally back on Channel 5 hosting - Sally Lindsay's 70s Quiz Night, reports Plymouth Live . Sally is set to host a new show that promises to be a fun-filled, nostalgia-inducing celebration of the 1970s. She will be joined by team captains and fans John Thomson and Shaparak Khorsandi, as well as a host of celebrity guests.

Despite her successful on-screen career, Sally initially aspired to become a radio journalist. While studying at Hull University, she hosted her own radio show and dreamed of becoming an on-air radio host. However, she was discouraged from pursuing this path due to her "too northern" accent.

In a previous interview with The Express, she shared: "I got rejected by all the local radio stations, because they didn't like northern accents, even though I was in Hull! "I've always loved radio journalism, but I used to get comments like, 'We don't need a female Terry Christian thanks very much'. It's unbelievable when you think about it, but it was a different time and place. There were hardly any of us on radio with an accent in the Nineties.

" But acting and comedy aren't Sally's only claims to fame. She also topped the UK charts as a child star. Born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, she made her first ever appearance on BBC One TV at the tender age of seven.

Taking the spotlight on Top Of The Pops, Sally and her St Winifred's School Choir shot to fame with their chart-topping hit 'There's No One Quite Like Grandma' back in 1980. In her private world, Sally is not the only star - her husband is acclaimed drummer Steve White. His notable collaborations include performances with Paul Weller and the Style Council, amongst a roster of esteemed artists.

The couple have been blissfully wed for over a decade since their star-studded nuptials in 2013. The ceremony was graced by celebrities such as Gok Wan, Alan Carr, Suranne Jones, and Denise Welch. Together, Sally and Steve are proud parents to twin sons Louie and Victor.

Career and motherhood successfully intersected for Sally, who once questioned the possibility of family life amidst the glitz of entertainment. Proudly acknowledging the transformative power of parenthood and partnership, she celebrates the support she receives from her husband and sons. Speaking with Prima magazine, Sally shared insights into her marriage: "Steve and I have been together 20 years and married for 10.

Working away a lot is what keeps the spark in our marriage – I genuinely believe that. We always have loads to talk about." She also spoke of the harmony between her work and personal life: "Steve is the head of music on my shows.

He'll ask me what I want and I'll come up with the most obscure, ridiculous references, but he'll know what I mean because he's my husband." Further expressing her adoration in the interview, Sally enthused, "He has a vast musical knowledge. He's a brilliant man; he's lovely and he's sexy and he's funny – and a rock star, which helps! He's also the best dad.
