Saints report: Overtime field goal lifts CSS to victory in season finale

St. Scholastica men's hockey team splits weekend games.

DULUTH — Jacob Andrews kicked a 43-yard field goal in overtime to lift the St. Scholastica football team to a 44-41 victory over Macalester on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Walt Hunting Stadium-Marv Heikkinen Field.

The Saints led 41-26 late in the fourth quarter, but the Scots scored two touchdowns inside the final five minutes to send the game into overtime. ADVERTISEMENT But Andrews' long kick gave the Saints a victory to close out their season. CSS quarterback Don West completed 22 passes on 43 attempts for 331 yards and two touchdowns.



West also caught a TD pass. Wide receiver Andrew Burgess was West's favorite target, catching 10 passes for 170 yards and a TD. CSS running back Nick Schlender carried the ball 25 times for 246 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side, John Bonner led the Saints with 10 tackles. St. Scholastica finishes the season with a 4-6 overall record, 2-5 in the MIAC.

MEN’S HOCKEY CSS splits weekend games The Yellowjackets defeated St. Scholastica 2-1 on Friday, Nov. 15, at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth, but the Saints topped Northland College 3-1 Saturday, Nov.

On Saturday, Northland jumped out to a 1-0 first-period lead, but Hunter Hanson tied the game with a power-play goal in the second, and Jacob Seitz and Evan Pahos each scored a goal in the third to put the Saints out of reach. Seitz assisted on the other two goals.

Northland's Andrew Yocum made 45 saves in goal, while Brenden Stroble stopped 27 shots for St. Scholastica. The Saints (2-3-1) take on Augsburg University in a weekend series — at 7 p.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY Bennies sweep Saints The College of St. Benedict swept a weekend series over St. Scholastica — 2-1 in overtime Friday, Nov.

MEN’S BASKETBALL Northwestern topples St. Scholastica Soren Anderson scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace Northwestern to an 85-78 victory over St. Scholastica on Saturday, Nov.

On Friday, Nov. 15, the Saints fell 67-43 to Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Berg Gym in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Ava Haus led St.

Scholastica with 12 points. On Saturday, Nov. 16, the Saints overcame a 41-29 halftime deficit to rally in the second half and defeat Marian University 75-67 at Sadoff Gym in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Haus again led CSS, this time with 21 points, and Jackie Johnson and Kloey Lind also hit double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Lind also hauled in 9 rebounds. CSS (1-3) hosts Northland College on Saturday, Nov.

23, at 1 p.m. MEN’S, WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Saints run at NCAA regionals The Saints competed at the NCAA Division III North Region cross country meet Saturday, Nov.

16, in Northfield, Minnesota. ADVERTISEMENT Calvin Boone completed the 8K men’s course in 25 minutes, 9.1 seconds and placed 26th to lead St.

Scholastica to a 15th-place team finish. Grace McCormick ran the women’s 6K course in 23:15.4 and paced the Saints with a 42nd-place finish.
