Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, is set to hit the theatres on July 31,...
Read More Spider-Man fans were sent into a frenzy when the fourth instalment of the franchise was officially announced at CinemaCon on April 1. Titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the film will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker, while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to return as MJ and Ned. Although Holland’s involvement is confirmed, the rest of the cast remains undisclosed, and director Destin Daniel Cretton has yet to reveal any plot details for the highly anticipated sequel.
Sadie Sink ’s name had surfaced earlier as part of the cast lineup. Known for her portrayal of Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, she has become the centre of fan speculation since the title announcement. Many believe she could play Lily Hollister, also known as Menace.
The character first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #545 as the daughter of district attorney William Hollister and Harry Osborn’s girlfriend. After accidentally exposing herself to Norman Osborn’s chemical formulas, she transforms into the grey-skinned supervillain Menace.
Menace possesses superhuman strength, speed, stamina and regenerative healing. She also wields Pumpkin Bombs and advanced weaponry while riding the Mark 7 Goblin Glider. As a member of the Goblin Underground, Menace becomes a significant threat to Spider-Man.
While it is just speculation, fans think her character would fit well in a story about Peter Parker facing new challenges. Earlier, there were rumours that Sadie could play Jean Grey or Mary Jane Watson but the actress has stayed quiet on the speculation. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Sadie addressed the growing rumours, saying, “Yes, this is news to me.
.. No, I have nothing to say about this.
The rumours are cool, though. It’s an awesome rumour..
. I know the character. It’s a great character, so it was cool to read.
I think that’s super exciting." Meanwhile, speculation around the movie’s plot is also growing. While no official details have been revealed, fans believe the storyline could focus on Peter Parker trying to rebuild his life after the status quo-changing events of One More Day and Civil War.
In the comics, One More Day shows Peter erasing his marriage to Mary Jane Watson to save Aunt May’s life. Brand New Day then follows Spider-Man as he faces new challenges and threats. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to begin filming in the summer of 2025.
The film is set to hit the theatres on July 31, 2026..
