LUDHIANA: All is not well with Shiromani Akali Dal as former CM Sukhbir Singh Badal resigned from the post of party president on Saturday. The impact of his resignation has reached the district level leadership as well and on Sunday the district president (urban) Bhupinder Singh Bhinda also gave his resignation. Bhinda who was ex councillor and among blue eyed leaders of party has showed shock over the resignation decision of Badal.

Bhinda submitted his resignation to officiating president of SAD in which he mentioned that Sukhbir Singh Badal has resigned from the presidency of Shiromani Akali Dal. It was he who had entrusted him with the responsibility of Shiromani Akali Dal Ludhiana (urban) President. He mentioned that he has worked in the interest of the party with his full capacity under his chairmanship.

He said, "But in the context of his resignation, I consider it my moral duty and I also resign from the post of president of Ludhiana (urban) so that the new party president can hand over the responsibility of this post to whomever he wants. I thank the senior leaders of Akali Dal and the leaders and workers of Ludhiana district who have always supported me." He claimed that it was during Akali Dal regime that state got so many projects and development during Sukhbir Badal' tenure is still remembered not only by the Punjabis but also by leaders from other parties.

He applied brakes on the speculations about him leaving party by saying that he was in Akali Dal and will remain in Akali Dal and will always remain in support of Sukhbir Badal. Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, businessman by profession was made district president in August 2023. He remained councillor in MC general house in 2012-2017 when SAD BJP had hold of MC as well as state.

His wife had also contested elections in 2018 but she had lost to a congress candidate. Bhinda remained closely associated with SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and he remained on good terms with Sukhbir Singh Badal as well. He remained on several posts in Youth Akali Dal as well.

However the district leaders are unable to digest the resignation of Sukhbir Badal as leaders were waiting for the party approval to contest the MC elections which are going to be announced anytime. Now all the eyes are on senior leaders meeting which is going to take place on Monday in Chandigarh where decision over Sukhbir Badal' resignation will be taken and only after that things will become clear..
