Joe Root continued his dream run of form in Test cricket in the first test of the series against Pakistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium with the 34th ton of his career in the longest format of the game. The English batter went past Alaister Cook's long-standing record and became the highest-run-getter in Test cricket history for England. The 33-year-old is now the fifth-highest run-getter in Test cricket history and is less than 1400 runs away from going past Ricky Ponting and climbing to second spot on the elite list.

The first spot belongs to Sachin Tendulkar (15921) runs, and for years the Indian cricket legend's record was seen as unbreakable. However, Root is breaking rapid strides and has become a realistic threat to Tendulkar's milestone. Root is less than 3500 runs away from Tendulkar.

At the age of 33, Root still has a lot of years left in him, and with not much ODI cricket happening, he is a largely one-format player, which will ensure that he has enough time to manage his workload and continue playing for a long time. Joe Root's Old Post For Sachin Tendulkar Goes Viral As Root continues to near Tendulkar's record, an old post of the former England skipper has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter). The English batter paid a moving tribute to the Indian cricket legend during his final Test match in 2013, when he recalled making his Test debut against a Tendulkar-starrer India team.

Root revealed that he was born after the 'Master Blaster's' debut for the Indian team. "Sachin made his debut for India before I was born. Then played in my test debut," wrote Root in a 11-year-old post on X(formerly Twitter).

It is worth noting that Root was born on 30th December 1990 more than 13 months after Sachin's debut in Test cricket (15th November 1989) at the age of 16. Root made his Test debut against India at Nagpur in 2012 when Sachin was part of the MS Dhoni-led side.
