The college playoff committee has released a pair of rankings so far as the college football regular season is nearing the end while the first 12-team playoff looms around the corner. Alabama , 8-2 after its 52-7 victory over Mercer on Saturday, is sitting at No. 10 in the latest college football playoff rankings, but freshman phenom Ryan Williams disagrees with his team's ranking.
"Me personally, I think we're the best team in the nation," Williams said. With four ranked wins on Alabama's resume, including victories over Georgia and LSU, the Crimson Tide would have a case for that No. 1 ranking.
However, road losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee also play into the fact that the Tide is ranked outside the top five. Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News Thankfully, those two losses don't kill Alabama's chances to prove what Williams claimed.
As the Tide's final two regular season games inch closer, Williams and his team know that only Oklahoma and Auburn stand in the way of reaching the college football playoff. Get there, and anything is possible. Alabama has shown it can play and beat any team in the country, but it has also shown holes in its pair of losses.
Still, the Tide is like every other team with its warts, as no team has shown an ability to be above making mistakes. It will come down to consistency and who is playing the hottest at the right time. After three straight victories, Alabama knows it could be that team that Williams believes it is, and it will have a chance to prove it in the coming weeks.
