As the country marked the national Heroes Day on Saturday, February 1, different music, made by the military in particular, made rounds on social media. One of the songs is called “Ubutwari buraharanirwa”, where one of the lines loosely translates to “Heroism is a result of determination, but I found that love is natural.” This statement should remind us that while love may come effortlessly, heroism requires conscious effort and unwavering determination.

The Heroes Day is a perfect time to reflect on what it means to be a hero and why the youth should strive for heroism in all they do. They are the present and future of the country after all. These heroes were not born extraordinary- they became so through their choices and determination. Heroism is not just about grand gestures; it is about the daily pursuit of excellence and integrity. Whether it is standing against corruption, promoting unity, or striving for innovation, determination is the key to making a lasting impact. Rwanda’s rapid development is a testament to the power of resilience and dedication.
