Russia to raise Kirillov’s assassination at UN Security Council meeting

Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s Deputy Representative to the United Nations, announced that Moscow will bring up the assassination of Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia’s nuclear, biological, and chemical defense forces, during a Security Council session. Kirillov and his aide were killed early Tuesday when an explosive device concealed in a scooter detonated in the Ryazansky district of Moscow. The Russian news agency TASS reported on Tuesday, December 17, that Polyanskiy stated the matter will be discussed at the UN Security Council meeting scheduled for December 20 this year.

Polyanskiy emphasized: “This crime must be punished as demanded and explicitly condemned by the international community.” Earlier, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council, claimed that Ukraine had admitted involvement in planning the attack. Reuters, citing its sources, also reported that Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) played a role in the assassination.



However, the Ukrainian government has not officially commented on the death of the Russian general.
