Jigawa State is poised to be coming a sports hub, courtesy of Governor Umar Namadi’s commitment to the development of sporting activities in the state. The governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to grassroots initiatives aimed at empowering youths during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian National League held, Wednesday at the Government House, Dutse, the state capital. Arewa PUNCH reports that the visit by the NNL team was part of a facility inspection tour in preparation for the commencement of the league’s matches.
At the meeting, Namadi expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to youth and sports development in the state. He emphasised the importance of utilising sports as a platform for youth engagement, talent development, and societal growth. According to him, “The youths are the future, whatever we can do to motivate them, we will do.
” He noted that his administration has prioritised scouting and nurturing talents from the grassroots, leading to the establishment of the Junior Golden Stars as a feeder team for the senior team. Also, the governor announced his administration’s plan to build a new stadium in the state, which is expected to rank among the best in Nigeria in terms of facilities and capacity. As a result, he promised continuous collaboration with stakeholders to ensure progress in sports development.

The NNL team leader assured that the Jigawa Golden Stars will now play their league matches at home while benefiting from improved facilities.
He praised the timely appointment of a management team for the Jigawa Golden Stars Football Club, saying that “This step has provided much-needed stability and a clearer vision for the club’s future.” While also emphasising the importance of using sports as a tool for social reintegration, particularly for out-of-school children, Sama proposed initiatives such as providing uniforms, school bags, and other supplies to encourage youth participation. “The establishment of the Junior Golden Stars as a feeder team for the senior team is a critical step towards sustainable sports development in Jigawa State.
“This initiative will provide a platform for young talents to develop their skills and potentially represent the state and the country in national and international competitions,” he noted. Meanwhile, Samantha observed that “Namadi’s vision for sports development is seen at the national level as ambitious and far-reaching,” adding that the governor is committed to providing the necessary infrastructure and support to ensure that the state becomes a hub for sports development in the state..
