A scheme to convert a family home into a six-bedroom shared house has been given the go-ahead. The plan will see the house in Mackenzie Street, Astley Bridge, converted into a house in multiple occupation for up to six people. Council planning officers ruled that the plan for the house was classed as “permitted development” and so could be allowed to go ahead.
A council report said: “The development would not result in the conversion of the dwelling into two or more dwellings and would be for no more than six persons. “A number of neighbour objections have been received, however objections are not considered for this type of application as it is a matter of lawful development.” As it stands plans for HMOs with six or fewer bedrooms do not need to apply for full planning permission to their local council to be allowed to go ahead.

The application for Mackenzie Street was put to the council on Monday February 25. The authority announced that the plan was classed as “permitted development” on Thursday, March 13.
