Ruben Selles addresses Championship relegation battle after Hull City's latest hammer blow

The Tigers face an anxious wait between now and the visit of Coventry City on Monday night

Ruben Selles admits he's prepared for Hull City's relegation battle to go the distance with just five games remaining in the campaign. Tuesday night's dismal display at Watford saw City beaten 1-0 and yet again pass up an opportunity to back up a victory which they secured at Hillsborough on Saturday. That defeat, their 19th of the season and 15th without scoring , left the Tigers just two points above the drop zone and firmly in trouble as the season nears its conclusion.

City 's desperate situation could be made even more worrying by the time they play Coventry City on Monday night because if results go against them, they could be only out of the bottom three on goal difference. After the visit of the Sky Blues on Monday night, City then travel to Swansea City on Good Friday before hosting Preston North End on Easter Monday. They take on Derby County in their penultimate fixture before the final day trip to Portsmouth.

And Selles expects it will not be settled soon, an opinion backed up by his side's woeful lack of consistency. "Yes, it's so tight," the Spaniard admitted. "It has been tough for us from the very beginning and that's the season history.

We still have the season in our hands and we still have the competitiveness within us to win football matches. "It's tight. We lost (at Watford), but we have proved that we are competitive and we can win football matches at this level, so we're going to go into the next game.

We are going to just try to get the lessons that we need to get (from losing at Watford), go to the next game, be our best version, and try to beat the opponent and not think too much about the rest. "We know what is the situation. We know that this now is two points, but as we discussed many times.

It depends on us, let's go and try to do it. We don't need to think about anybody else if we go into the next game and then we win the three points." Did you know that you can get daily Tigers news sent straight to your device as soon as it happens through WhatsApp? It's quick and easy to join.
