Manchester United are finally starting to see some fruits of Ruben Amorim’s appointment and the manager settling in has had a big part to play in it. Arriving mid-season, taking over a team in tatters and a mishmash of multiple managers, Ruben Amorim had a trial by fire. Since then, he’s gotten to know more about the players, the club, the environment, scrutiny, and the executive team above him.

He’s now suggested that he’s also found the ideal relationship at Man Utd that was a major reason behind his success in Portugal with Sporting. Contrast that state of affairs with these comments below- “Any coach would be lucky to work with him.

Not just due to his competence but due to his loyalty. [He] has already proved many times that he knows how to do magic.”The comments above were said by Ruben Amorim about his sporting director in Portugal, Hugo Viana, who will now be tasked with putting roadblocks in his path with Man City.

The relationship between a manager and the man tasked with interacting with him daily is the most important teamwork dynamic at the club. Amorim has now confirmed that he’s found the United equivalent of his relationship with Viana at Sporting. He said: “We need to have a great connection.

‘I was so lucky to work with Hugo. It’s not exactly the same but is more or less the same relationship with Jason, so in that department, I’m completely relaxed.“At Sporting, it was a different context, here the competition is completely different.

But we need to be really good at recruitment. “We need to know our system, the way we play, and the players have to be perfect for that position. We know what to do, we will see next season.

”Jason Wilcox has started well at Old TraffordAmorim could have been forgiven for having a feeling of “deja vu” like previous Man Utd managers when Dan Ashworth was let go but it could be a case of addition by subtraction. Jason Wilcox has effectively taken on Ashworth’s responsibilities and his eye for scouting for talent fits right in line with what Amorim wants from his players. He recently conceded that Ayden Heaven surprised him by how quickly he took to senior football, which is a testament to Wilcox’s talent identification.

It goes without saying that not every youngster signing gamble will be as unequivocal a success as Heaven, but Amorim and Wilcox have got a good synergy going. It will be the platform on which United’s successful team will be built..
