FAIR City star Shaun Dunne has opened up about playing Georgie and revealed his hopes for the character's future. The actor, who plays Georgie Dennis in the show, joined the hit RTE soap in 2022. Shaun's character in Fair City has been involved in multiple major storylines since he joined the show.

In a recent interview, Shaun told the RTE Guide: "One of the reasons why I took the role was the fact he was a queer character and the opportunity, as an openly gay man, to play a queer role on something that's on television so much throughout the week felt like something I couldn't pass up on. "There's so much hate online and in the real world, so to play someone like Georgie where you're so part of the norm and the everyday, and your sexuality or your difference isn't the main point of your contribution to the story, felt like something I could do as an artist and an actor that was actually very useful." The main storyline that Shaun has been involved in is the murder of Laura Halpin and he is also currently involved in Fergal's sexuality storyline.

The TV star said: "Laura's murder has been really interesting because Georgie was a suspect for quite a long time and that still hasn't been resolved. "The whole 35 year anniversary special has been really interesting because people are reflecting a lot on their time on the show. As an audience member, we all have memories and we all know certain things that have happened.

"It's been nice to connect with these bigger long-standing histories." Comparing his character to himself, Shaun admitted that he is "very different" to Georgie. He explained: "Georgie is quite soft and I wouldn't let people away with as much as he does.

"We look alike. Unfortunately for him, he looks like me!" Speaking about his hopes for the future, Shaun said: "I'd like to see him take himself a little more seriously. I think sometimes he can be too nice, and in a soap, if you're too nice, bad things are going to happen to you.

"I'd like to see him mature into himself a little bit more. I'd like to see him have relationships and to really get into that. "I think the relationship that he's had so far, it's like he's dipping his toe into particular dynamics, so l'd like to see him immerse himself into that world a little bit more and see where it takes him.

" Fair City viewers were all left with the same complaint about Jacinta as she made a "disrespectful" remark. In last night's episode, Erica enjoyed winding Ray up after he joked about Nikki fancying Doug. Georgie realised where Fergal’s insecurities came from when Jacinta made a homophobic remark.

Gar was disgusted when Jacinta suggested that Georgie is trying to turn Fergal gay. Fergal was relieved when Gar called Jacinta out for her ridiculous and prejudiced views. Gar broached the idea that Jacinta’s homophobia was due to the fact her deceased brother, Des, was gay.

Jacinta flipped out when Gar and Fergal brought up Des again, throwing them out of the house and banning them from ever mentioning him again. Georgie told Fergal that Jacinta was a huge part of his problems and advised him to break ties with her. Nikki and Erica decided to team up and have some fun with Ray.
